WC Bell and EJ Gossett started their business in 2016, selling and manufacturing case hardening compounds in 1919 in Chicago. They started manufacturing water heaters two years later. Their entrepreneurial spirit spurred the company’s growth, with Bell taking over another case hardening company in Cleveland and Gossett expanding the Chicago operations of the company. Later on, Gossett bought Bell’s stake in the company and ran the company for 46 years until his death in 1962.
